Even Par

I witnessed an even par game this morning.

Had the same playing partner as yesterday, Mark P., and same circumstances in that we were the 3rd and 4th sign ups to a foursome but the original couple didn’t show. Weather was nicer than yesterday, summer fire season here so an orange tinge to the sky but a slight ocean breeze kept the particulates hugging the mountains on the mainland side of Howe Sound.

Better first hole than the shake down round yesterday after not playing for a while. Was still working on (it’s okay now!) the new grip for my three wood, duffer time first but recovered to get the third shot a little closer to the fringe than P. Couple putts for each of us after chipping and smoothing down the ring that had grown around the hole from being in the same spot for two or three days with heavy watering in preparation for the Club Championship.

The other Mark and I had got it together it seemed by the third hole, both drives followed by good approach shots on to the green with my ball taking a longer roll past the hole and P’s shot slowing down for an almost tap in birdie. After a so-so start, the excitement of a birdie may have affected P’s next hole that turned into a double with a tee shot into Lucas Lake.

Number five was like hole number one for me; in that after a decent drive the second shot duffed but on the third shot ended up better on the fringe than P. Six was the second birdie for P. with a five inch tap in from the par three tee. Followed by nice drives from both of us on hole seven, a good layup and on the green in regulation with P. again getting the better roll. Bit of the yips for P., birdie putt fell short but that’s golf!

We made up for hole seven on number eight, par for me and the third birdie from an amazing roll up close to the hole. So – P. is looking at finishing the game at one over now if the next hole can be parred. Again, good drives but the bounce on mine put me into a position to layup and P. is better off to the right and going for it. We’re both close on the fringe to putt, P. is away first and voila, the fourth birdie of nine holes and an even par game.

Fun morning for me to get my mind set for the weekend. Thank you Lynda for the encouragement to have a couple nine hole rounds before the tourney, love you babe.
